Release Date: 1977
Camera Description:
The Konica C35 AF, introduced in November 1977, was the world’s first mass-produced autofocus 35mm film camera. Nicknamed “Jasupin” in Japan, it marked a significant milestone in compact camera technology.
Equipped with a sharp 38mm f/2.8 Hexanon lens, the C35 AF utilized Honeywell’s Visitronic passive autofocus system, which detected contrast differences to achieve focus—an innovative approach for its time. The camera also featured automatic exposure control, a built-in pop-up flash, and a mechanical film advance system. Its compact design and user-friendly features made it a popular choice, with over a million units sold before being succeeded by the C35 AF2 in 1980.
Today, the Konica C35 AF is celebrated by film photography enthusiasts for its historical significance and reliable performance.
